Accountancy is a profession that actually goes back many thousands of years. There is even mention of it in the bible in some form and though roots have been traced back to medieval times in Europe it is thought that they go back farther than this to ancient Greece and Rome. Accountancy is a popular professional and one that can be very profitable if you are successful in gaining entry to it. You will need a number of skills, numeracy is obviously one of them (and pretty important!) but you also need patience, communication skills, problem solving abilities and an ability to prioritise work effectively, to name a few. Work experience in the area may give you an advantage in gaining a place at university or a job role afterwards.

Defence is primarily a word we use in a military setting but has many different connotations. In history people have long since defended towns and buildings by forming defensive means to put off the enemy. However, in open battle is often the attacker that has the advantage.

Union is the joining of two or more things together and can again refer to any number of things. The European Union is an intergovernmental body that has 27 members, all countries within Europe. It has its own currency, the Euro.

Rugby Union is a popular sport and is played in a team of 15 players. They often were coloured jerseys in a team colour.
